As livestock from across the United States converge on Louisville for the North American International Livestock Exposition Nov. 9-22, I am reminded of how important it is for Kentucky and the United States to have a robust system in place to safeguard our livestock from disease.

"I've been working on raising chickens since I was 6 years old, and since then, it has really grown into a successful enterprise," said Chelsey Schlosnagle of Shelby County, the National FFA American Star in Agribusiness.

U.S. corn growers remain on track for a record high 14.0 billion bushel production year, according to the Crop Production report, released today by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

Kentucky students can learn about the benefits of local food while competing for prizes in the third annual Farm to School Art Contest. The statewide contest commemorated Farm to School Week Oct. 20-25.
